Impaction
Impaction refers to a condition of a tooth that has failed to emerge fully through the gums. The most common teeth to become impacted are wisdom teeth. Impacted tooth occurs due to,
- Improper angulation of the tooth.
- No space in the jaw to accommodate the erupting tooth.
- Partial eruption of the teeth allows bacteria to grow in the opening leading to infection.
Symptoms
- Bad breath and unpleasant taste when biting down on or near the area.
- Visible gaps where a tooth did not emerge.
- Pain, redness and swelling of the gums around the impacted tooth.
